On February 10, according to the data released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, global innovation entities accomplished growth in the volume of PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) international patent applications against the COVID-19 epidemic in 2021. Chinese applicants submitted 69,500 international patent applications through the PCT, topping the chart in terms of application volume for three consecutive years. The top 5 countries in application volume are the United States (59,600, +1.9%), Japan (50,300, -0.6%), South Korea (20,700, +3.2%) and Germany (17,300, -6.4%).
As announced by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, 13 Chinese enterprises are among the top 50 global PCT international patent applicants, which is one enterprise more than that of 2020. The top company is Huawei with 6952 patents, seizing the position for five consecutive years. The fastest-growing enterprise is AAC Acoustic Technologies (Shenzhen) CO., LTD, which ranks 29 in the world and 8 in China. The ranking of the company increased by 58 positions over last year. The company also boasts the largest patent application volume among China’s precision manufacturing companies. Shenzhen RuiSheng Acoustics Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Ltd. is a subsidiary of AAC Technologies.
