On December 28, the Xiaomi 12 series was officially launched. Xiaomi’s founder and chairman Lei Jun said that Xiaomi ended the year 2021 with the Xiaomi 12 series, the best Xiaomi phone to date, creating a new milestone for Xiaomi’s high-end phones.
Xiaomi 12 series has reportedly adopted a dual-size design this time. The all-round high-end flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro comes equipped with the new-gen Snapdragon 8 processor, second-gen low-power 2K screen, Sony IMX707 bottom sensor, and 120W Xiaomi surge charger, with breakthroughs in performance, display, image, charging, and more.
In terms of sound, Xiaomi 12 Pro is the first Xiaomi digital series to be equipped with four-unit speakers. AAC has customized the Xiaomi 12 Pro with two solutions: full-band quad speaker stereo and a high-performance X-axis linear actuator, which provide users with a stunning listening and vibration experience.
The first quad speaker solution applied to a non-folding screen phone
The current trend in the smartphone industry is to go thinner and lighter. Confined by limited body space, the speaker configuration in mainstream cell phones tends to be dual speakers. The four-speaker stereo solution is generally found in pads and notebooks with higher requirements for sound playback performance.
AAC partnered with Xiaomi’s R&D team to create a full-band quad speaker stereo solution for the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The solution uses two cores, a combination of two woofers, and two tweeters. Notably, this is the first time that the quad speaker solution has been applied to a non-folding screen phone after the initial attempt of Xiaomi’s Mix Fold high-end folding screen phone series, one of the very first to do so in the mobile acoustics sector.
Smaller AME box with better sound quality
According to AAC’s R&D engineers, the lack of stacking space on the phone explains its inability to carry multiple speakers. To address this pain point, AAC integrates AME’s all-metal encapsulation technology to shrink the speaker box, boost shock absorption, and prevent sound leakage.

Compared to plastic boxes, the AME Box (with all-metal encapsulation technology) reduces height by13%, width by 9.2%, and weight by12% while increasing the equivalent rear cavity by 13.5% thus providing better low-frequency sound quality. Thanks to the optimized volume and performance of the AME Box, it is possible for the four speakers to emit sound simultaneously in the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
A combination of tweeter and woofer boxes makes for a wider frequency band and richer details
In its choice of woofers, AAC employs an ultra-linear speaker box that delivers excellent bass quality, with a maximum amplitude of 0.65 mm and an equivalent rear cavity of 0.8 cc, ensuring less distortion and a dynamic effect with greater amplitude and volume. When the two ultra-linear speaker boxes sound simultaneously at the top and bottom of the phone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro becomes a ‘smart subwoofer’ on the go.
Due to body space limitations, speakers usually require side articulation, which leads to weak and less layered high notes. For example, the dolphin vocal sound from a human, which should be exciting and emotional, generally sounds weak and less impressive on cell phones.

The tweeter dramatically enhances treble performance
The Xiaomi 12 Pro has two built-in AAC tweeter boxes, which is a pioneering solution for addressing the above-mentioned pain point.
