On March 21, DxOMark released its latest audio ranking. AAC provided acoustic devices and tuning algorithms for the first-place winner, the Black Shark 4 Pro. This is another cell phone brand, following Huawei MATE20X, Xiaomi 10 Pro, Xiaomi 10S and other models, won this award with audio solutions provided by AAC.
Since the launch of DxOMark’s audio review ranking in 2019, AAC – a leading global provider of acoustic solutions – has provided acoustic services for all the top ranking phones on the audio list.
Phone Model | DxOMark Rating | Services Provided by AAC |
Black Shark 4 PRO | 81 | Speakers + tuning service |
Xiaomi 10s | 80 | Speakers |
Asus ROG Phone 5 | 79 | Speakers |
Xiaomi 10 Pro | 76 | Speakers |
Huawei Mate20X | 75 | Speakers |
The major difference in AAC’s role this year is that it provided both the hardware and software for the Black Shark 4 Pro. In addition to acoustics hardware, it also provided a full range of solutions spanning audio algorithms, tuning, and experience evaluation to bring an ultimate sound experience to users. Black Shark 4 Pro scored 81 points, ranking first in the DxOMark audio list.
– Hardware –
SLS 0.7mm amplitude ultra-linear speakers
In terms of hardware, the Black Shark 4 Pro is equipped with two SLS ultra-linear speakers developed by AAC, with an amplitude of 0.7 mm, a sound cavity equivalent to 1.5CC, and a symmetrical stereo dual-speaker design that ensures the best available stereo sound. The leading hardware configuration creates an important foundation for the Black Shark 4 Pro to achieve an unprecedented audio experience. Compared to other flagship phones, the Black Shark 4 Pro delivers an 80% increase in volume, a 100% increase in both low-frequency performance and the frequency band of the sound range.
– Algorithms and tuning –
25 levels, 1,000+ sets of parameters for fine tuning
Notably, AAC uses audio algorithms and tuning to give full play to the audio output of the two speakers. Given that end users have different requirements for sound performance in different scenarios, AAC has divided the volume into 25 levels from low to high to accommodate games, videos, music, and calls. It has also customized tuning for each level in different scenarios, with a total of 1,000+ sets of tuning parameters, delivering ultra-loud audio at high volumes and soft output at low volumes.
For music, each instrument is accurately positioned. Whether it is pop, R&B, techno, or rock, all can be perfectly rendered. For videos, dialogue is clearly reproduced, with outstanding dynamics. For games, sound effects, such as gunshots and explosions, can be accurately reproduced, making it easy for players to understand their surroundings and stay one step ahead in tournaments.
For calls, the exclusive distortion suppression and sound enhancement algorithm engine suppresses distortion and noise from airflow. The system modules work to produce the best audio performance in any scenario. AAC has also tailored a variety of exclusive sound effects for the Black Shark 4 Pro, a professional gaming phone. The perfect sound quality and spatial effects provide a more sensory experience, enhancing the sense of immersion in tournaments.
– Experience evaluation services –
Customized evaluation for different scenarios
For our experience evaluation service, AAC’s professional tuning and evaluation team performs fine tuning for different use cases and volume levels, ensuring the best sound performance in any scenario, which helped the Black Shark 4 Pro claim the top spot.
About DxOMark Audio
Founded in 2008, DxOMark is an independent institution that scientifically evaluates the quality of smartphone cameras, front-facing cameras, audio quality, screens, and wireless speakers. DxOMark believes that sound is an essential part of the smartphone experience. Whether listening to music, watching videos, recording concerts, playing voice messages (e.g., WeChat voice), or gaming, audio quality has never been more important. DxOMark officially launched DxOMark Audio Ranking in 2019. Underpinned by rigorous scientific benchmarks and industrial-grade lab tools, the ranking process involves hundreds of objective and perceptual tests on every device. The results of these tests are synthesized into a DxOMark Audio score. The higher the score, the better the sound. The results are available at www.dxomark.com.
