Redmi K50 Ultra Equipped with AAC Technologies’ Overall Solution and 100MP WLG Glass–Plastic Lens in the Global Debut

The Redmi K50 Ultra is equipped with AAC Technologies’ integrated solution to acoustic, optical, and tactile perception, hence being known as “the most hardcore performance release in the history of the K series.” On the evening of August 11, Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, unveiled the Redmi K50 Ultra at the Xiaomi Autumn New Product Launch. As the ultimate masterwork of this series, K50 Ultra makes breakthroughs in both performance and experience. Those stunning features are what makes the media call the Redmi K50 Ultra by the name of the “Most Cost-Efficient Snapdragon 8+ Mobile Phone.”

In terms of imaging, the most important rear main camera of Redmi K50 Ultra adopts the 108MP WLG hybrid lens exclusively customized by AAC Optics as well as the Samsung ISOCELL HM6 image sensor. Supplemented with the 20MP front camera, the 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and the 2MP macro lens, Redmi K50 Ultra fully releases its imaging potential.

In terms of auditory and tactile sensation, Redmi K50 Ultra adopts AAC Technologies’ RichTap® software-hardware-integrated haptic solution, the SLS super linear speakers, and the high-performance MEMS microphone to maximize the perceptual experience.

A hybrid of glass and plastic makes images more beautiful

The advancement of mobile image features and the development of ultra-high pixels have posed higher requirements for the designed height, stability, and resolution of lenses. Since plastic lenses have approached their performance limit, the low dispersion, large light input, and high thermal stability features of glass lenses endow hybrid lenses with a larger room for lens design, a bigger aperture, and a stronger resolution.

The WLG hybrid lens equipped on the Redmi K50 Ultra is specially customized by AAC Optics. It is composed of 1 WLG glass lens and 5 plastic lenses to deliver stronger optic performance compared with traditional 6P plastic lenses. The addition of the WLG lens enables a larger aperture, higher resolution, smaller thickness, and lower temperature drift for the lens; reduces image noise in dim environments, and improves edge and near-focus image quality.

Lei Jun specially introduced at the launch conference, “This WLG lens is extraordinary. It is made up of 1 glass lens and 5 plastic lenses. The addition of the glass lens can improve light transmittance and reduce glare.

F1.6 super-large aperture makes photos clearer in dim environments

The F1.6 super-large aperture widens the channel for light to enter the sensor, allowing more details to pass through the lens and directly reach the 1/1.67″ HM6 image sensor with a larger light sensing area and clear image quality in dim environments. Images taken with the camera will be clearer and more natural with more lifelike and richer colors and more vivid and distinctive details. While splendid moments can be captured instantly, the better blur effect gives photographers sufficient room for creativity.

6.2mm lens height with a slim body

The height of the camera generally increases with the size of the aperture. This physical limit raises a challenge about how to maintain outstanding shooting performance while effectively reducing the height of lens protrusion. Leveraging the superb performance of glass and leading precision manufacturing technology, AAC Optics has achieved another breakthrough in the miniaturization of lenses, and given more combination possibilities inside a mobile phone. The Redmi K50 Ultra released this time features a lens height as small as 6.2mm while maintaining the F1.6 large aperture; this is significantly shorter than ordinary 6P cameras. This advantage makes the K50 Ultra slim and comfortable to hold while maintaining powerful performance.

“8+10” coating to better control color aberration and dispersion

The optical design is the foundation of a lens and the coating technology of a lens is a key to further improving the image quality. This time, AAC Optics applies its independently developed differentiated lens coating technique to the main camera of the Redmi K50 Ultra. It applies 8 layers of coating to the first 5 lenses and 10 layers of low-reflection coating to the sixth lens to effectively reduce reflectivity and enable better control of color aberration and dispersion. In this way, ghosting and glare will be inhibited and the general image quality will be improved.

Compared with competitors on the market at the same price range, the Redmi K50 Ultra tops the chart in comprehensive image performance for its four advantages, namely high pixels, large target surface, large aperture, and ultra-slim design.

Multi-dimensional perception solution involving acoustics and haptics to deliver better experience across the board

In terms of haptic senses, Redmi K50 Ultra adopts the X-axis linear actuator from AAC Technologies which, after being tuned by the RichTap® haptics solution, enables the industry-leading 5ms instant start/stop while bringing new devices stronger and more comfortable vibration effects. Users can easily “touch” the high-quality vibration experience in MIUI, mobile games, social networking, video, and other scenarios.

In addition, the Redmi K50 Ultra is also equipped with the SLS super-linear speakers and the high-performance MEMS microphone customized by AAC Technologies, giving users in different scenarios extraordinary auditory experiences characterized by full and stunning loudspeaker sound as well as sensitive and clear stereo sound pickup. It is worth mentioning that, supported by AAC’s independently development chips, the excellent acoustic performance of the MEMS microphone, and relevant voice algorithms, the K50 Ultra has outstanding noise reduction in work, life, or outdoor scenarios, and gives users a clearer and better auditory experience in voice communication, video communication, or conferences.
